Podcast Update!

Hey Y'all,

4th.jpeg

First off, let me apologize for being MIA for the last month or so.

I have been cramming my brain with everything and anything related to the field of social work in preparation for my Association of Social Work Boards exam. I am elated to report that all my hard work and seclusion paid off because, I PASSED!

Thank Jesus. And thanks to everyone who supported me - whether you helped me study, allowed me to explain baffling concepts to you out loud so as to better understand them myself, or simply offered prayers and words of encouragement. All of it helped tremendously.

Wanna know what else helped me? Aside from my trusty Pocket Prep app (which I would highly recommend the upgraded version for anyone studying for the LCSW exam) - you guessed it! PODCASTS. Oh, and champagne, lots and lots of champagne.

I had to share an update with y’all. Shortly after my last post, I discovered the podcast I didn’t realize was missing from my life (thanks, Andrea)! Soon after, I found out about three others that I wish I had included in the original top 5 (more like 8 or 9) podcasts to listen too:

  1. My Favorite Murder - https://www.myfavoritemurder.com/

    1. Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered, or SSDGM, as the two hilarious hosts of MFM and the Murderino culture like to say. Hosted by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, MFM is a true-crime comedy podcast that began in 2016. If you’re a true crime fanatic like me, you will LOVE this podcast. I cannot believe it took me so long to hear about it. Each week, these ladies take turns sharing their selected murder or crime cases in storyteller fashion. To break up the gruesome details and horrific realization that these crimes actually happened - there is quick wit, laugh-out-loud banter, and a Siamese cat named Elvis! I can’t quite explain it, but listening to these ladies is like sitting in the kitchen with my aunts and cousins; so much female badassery and passion for bringing people together, while discussing the most unimaginable crimes on the planet. Sounds wonderful. Be sure to follow @myfavoritemurder on Instagram to see pictures of those convicted and other related images!

    2. Available on iTunes and Stitcher

  2. The Goal Digger - http://podcast.jennakutcher.com/

    1. Being new to the blogger world, I have found some serious inspiration and motivation from listening to Jenna Kutcher on her podcast, The Goal Digger (catchy right?). As a live-workshop business style podcast, Jenna is encouraging people to chase their dreams and not be defined by the outdated definition of success. My favorite part, The Goal Digger also features numerous girl bosses from all over. One of her recent guests was none other than Jessica Ekstrom, a Raleigh native who started Headbands of Hope while attending NC State in 2012. If you’re looking for inspiration to start a business, encouragement to keep pursuing your dreams, or simply some tips on how to be an even better girl boss - check out The Goal Digger! Follow Jenna on Instagram for additional content: @jennakutcher

    2. Available on Itunes

  3. Meditation Minis - http://meditationminis.com/

    1. I KNOW, I KNOW. Another post about meditation. I have never been a fan of meditation apps. I tried Headspace - lasted about three days. And then I found Meditation Minis. Hosted by Chel Hamilton (a hypnotherapist), each weekly mind-shifting mini podcast has a different focus, covering topics including anxiety, relaxation, insomnia, etc. Meditation Minis has been a fantastic tool to use when I need to refocus, and was a tremendous help when I felt anxious about my exam. What’s even better, is each podcast is around 10 minutes or less, making them the perfect length for a quick meditation. Oh, and her voice isn’t obnoxious to listen to, so that helps!

    2. Available on Itunes

I’m excited to get back into writing and connecting with others, now that I don’t have to focus on human development theorists or the difference between Schizoid and Schizotypal personality disorders (don’t ask). I hope these podcasts, and the others mentioned, bring you some laughs and insight!

Be sure to let me know if you decide to check any of them out! And if you have any recommendations for other podcasts, comment below or message me on Instagram!
